Uganda Police force has arrested at least 18 people suspected to be involved in the sale and smoking of Shisha in various entertainment hangouts in Kampala.

Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed this saying the suspects were netted from bars in an operation conducted by Jinja Road police station and shall be charged in courts of law within the course of the week.

“These suspects were found smoking Shisha in bars and they are now waiting to be arraigned in court. We urge people to always report people smoking in public places,” Mr Owoyesigyire said during a press conference at the police headquarters.

On January 05th, another operation was conducted at Casablanca bar in Kampala and scores were arrested and later chargerd. Police says related operations will continue especially in areas of Bugolobi and Centenary Park.

Shisha remains a popular featire in many hangouts in Kampala for its lucrative returns to bar owners.

Shisha smoking is a way of smoking tobacco, sometimes mixed with fruit or molasses sugar, through a bowl and hose or tube.

Meanwhile, Police also cautioned parents against letting children walk alone on roads since there could be criminals targeting them.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga urged parents to escort their children to school.

“This has been a long holiday and sometimes children come back when they have been abused. We ask teachers and nurses to share with us stories of children who may have been sexually abused or mistreated,” Mr Enanga said.
