Uganda on Sunday announced that 22 people who arrived in the country will return to their home countries after refusing to undergo the 14 days quarantine as per government regulations.

The group had flown to Uganda to participate in the Uganda-European Union Business Summit which is due to take place on Monday.

Minister of Health Jane Ruth Aceng said that the passengers were identified as being from the Category 1 countries. Aceng, however, did not name the countries from which the passengers were from.

“We informed them about our procedure of self-quarantine for 14 days. However, they were not willing to undergo this self-quarantine. Today, they will return to their home countries,” Dr. Aceng tweeted.

Dr. Aceng, who had visited Entebbe International Airport to monitor the ongoing COVID-19 screening process of all travelers, added that Uganda has no suspected or confirmed case of the coronavirus.

“I deeply appreciate our health workers for their tireless efforts in ensuring that Uganda is safe from COVID-19. Information is available on our website. I also appeal to you to always verify information from the Ministry of Health,” Aceng said.
