President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has Okayed a newly launched ‘Miss Curvy Contest Uganda’ by the State Minister for Tourism, Mr. Godfrey Kiwanda.
While addressing the Press in Namanve, the president wondered how to appreciate beauty without carrying out a contest.
“How do we explain why Nalulungi is alright and Nabitege is not. Should our children be involved in exploitative appearance?” Museveni stated.
“We may have made a mistake to appreciate Miss World Africa Quiin Abenakyo resulting in Miss Curves by Mungooma (organizer). We were encouraging Miss World Africa to market Uganda. If we do that are we right? Only slim girls. What we should ask is, should our children be involved in exploitative appearance. We should discuss whether appearances are an issue,” he added.
This comment comes days after Minister Kiwanda revealed that the contest would act as a new Toursim opportunity in the country.
Unveiling the initiative in Kampala, the State minister for Tourism, Mr Godfrey Kiwanda, said a beauty pageant dubbed ‘Miss Curvy Uganda’ has been launched to select sexy curvaceous women and the finalists will be selected in June.
“We have naturally endowed nice looking women that are amazing to look at. Why don’t we use these people as a strategy to promote our tourism industry?” Mr Kiwanda wondered, pointing at “a sample” of beautiful women at the press conference.
Meanwhile, Members of parliament on the parliamentary forum for Children have given the tourism minister Godfrey Kiwanda up to Tuesday next week to cancel the newly launched miss curvy contest.
The furious lawmakers insist that Minister has to apologize to Ugandans or else they move a censor motion against him.
“Miss Curvy is dehumanizing and the spirit behind it is evil,” says Hon. Bernard Atiku the committee Chair.
According to Minister Kiwanda’s initiative said that curvy and sexy Ugandan women to the list of tourism products to attract tourists has since been met with a lot of criticism.
In the same spirit, Kasambya county MP Gaffa Mbwatekamwa accused Kiwanda of promoting sex tourism using his new initiative.
