In a twist of events, a traditional healer who recently sued the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga over failure to pay for the charms he gave to Kadaga that allegedly helped her rise to higher positions has withdrawn the case and apologised to the speaker of parliament.
Demaiano Akuze filed the case through his lawyers; Mangeni and Company Advocates at the Jinja High Court, demanding for a payment of 200 million Shillings for the service that allegedly propelled Kadaga through leadership.
In his application to court, Akuze says that Kadaga was riding on his charms to keep herself in senior positions since 1990. However, he says that Kadaga failed to pay for the service over the years and that the money has since accumulated to more than 200 million Shillings.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday outside Jinja High Court, Akuze said that he held a meeting with individuals whose identities he refused to disclose, before withdrawing the case.
Akuze says that Kadaga’s supporters have been threatening his life, which affected the wellbeing of his family.
In his suit, the traditional healer told court that speaker Kadaga made a down payment of only one million shillings following the “great job” did to her adding that she owed her a big sum.
“The plaintiff worked on the defendant (Kadaga) for two nights of September 1 and September 2, 1990, and the defendant acknowledged the good care that the plaintiff gave to her. The defendant did not have money to pay the plaintiff at the time. So the plaintiff accepted to work on her on condition that she would pay the plaintiff as soon as she got the job,” read the court documents in defence of the traditional healer’s claims.
However, in a twist of events, Akuze has written to apologize to Kadaga for tarnishing her name.
“I do wholeheartedly apologise for my unreasonable action of filing a baseless and useless cases against you,”Akuze said in a March 7 letter to Kadaga.
The traditional healer was also quick to say that he has not been influenced, neither has he been paid by anyone to withdraw the case but rather did it on his own will.
“I also regret that the said case has tarnished your good and honoured reputation that you have earned for a long period of time. I take responsibility for my unreasonable action and I really regret the same. I am really sorry mama. Please find a place in your heart to forgive me,”Akuze said.
Last month, angry residents armed with placards in defense of Kadaga stormed Akuze’s home and ejected him. The residents sounded drums within the compound and ordered him to vacate or risk being lynched
