Police have summoned State minister for ICT Idah Nantaba to give her version of the Sunday event in Kayunga District where she claimed to have survived an assassination.

One man identified as Ronald Ssebulime was shot and killed in the incident on Sunday and it is expected that postmortem results will show the type of gun that was used to shoot him.

Police spokesperson Fredrick Enanga made these remarks while addressing journalists on Monday

“This morning, we had an appointment with Minister Idah Nantaba to record a very detailed statement but she told us that she was in a Cabinet meeting. We want her to give us an explanation about this attempted assassination,” Mr Enanga said in response to queries that the alleged assailant who was shot dead was just a civilian.

He said Ms Nantaba is expected to record the statement at Naggalama police station.

Mr Enanga said Kampala Metropolitan investigations team commanded by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Benard Muhumuza has been assigned to reconstruct the whole incident in order to establish the truth.

He added that police pathologist Moses Byaruhanga has conducted a postmortem to establish whether the manner in which the suspect was killed.

It’s reported that the minister was returning to Kampala from Ndeeba village in Kayunga where she had spent the weekend.

Mr Amos Lugoloobi the MP for Ntenjeru north who is also Ms Nantaba’s elder brother, said she was driving herself in the official vehicle at around 11am at Ggavu village in Kasawo Sub County along the Kayunga-Mukono road when gunmen intercepted her.

“As she was approaching Ggavu trading centre, some strangers on a bodaboda stopped her and when she stopped, armed men with masked faces came from the bush and when she sensed danger she sped off,” Mr Lugoloobi said.

Ms Nantaba was reportedly with her bodyguard attached to the Special Forces Command (SFC) when the incident occurred.
Mr Lugoloobi said the bodyguard did not fire at the suspected thugs as he feared that the minister could be caught in cross fire.

The Naggalama police DPC Ms Grace Nyangoma said the minister later drove to Naggalama police station where she reported the incident.
