Police has sealed off Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s One Love beach in Busabala akin to a crime scene in attempt to block the legislator’s scheduled music concert.

In a communication dated April, 19, 2019 by the Police director in charge of operations, AIGP Asuman Mugyenyi, he informed the organizers that because management failed to meet security guidelines at previous concerts, the upcoming concert is subsequently blocked.

“This is to inform you that despite the elaborate and clear guidelines well stipulated in our correspondence and the previous meetings we had regarding the preparations, the manner, conduct, characteristics and security demands from your side, previous concerts have fallen short of agreed positions,” Mugenyi said.

Police claim that Kyagulanyi’s shows have severally turned into a public nuisance, violated traffic rules and regulations and caused other misconducts, which don’t only bleach law, but endanger the lives of other people who are not even part of his music events.

On Monday morning, police deployed heavily and cordoned off Bobi Wine’s One Love Beach, Busabala in Wakiso district.

“We want to inform the public that the previous Kyarenga concerts, had poor track records that were characterized with multiple incidents, related to public nuisance due to overcrowding, thefts, violation of traffic rules and various misconducts, which were not only a breach of law, but also a danger to the revelers and the lives of other members of the community,” said CP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson.

He said as a result, police called for better safety measures during meetings with the promoters.

“We want to inform members of the public that, despite the elaborate and clear guidelines with the promoters, regarding their preparations, manner and conduct, during the concert, as well as the safety and security demands from their side; our intelligence picked up information that the event was still a risk to public safety,” he said.

Enanga said the promoters totally failed to meet the proactive harm minimization measures agreed upon to help address potential eventualities that might arise due to overcrowding.

“As responsible citizens, we urge the promoters to take police advice and the safety of revellers seriously, by suspending or stopping the concerts, until such a time that robust public security and safety mechanisms are put in place, to secure the revellers and other members of the community, who may be affected by such music concerts.”

He said the safety of revellers continues to be a top priority and the new procedures will strengthen and standardize the security and public safety practices, at major music events and venues.

“We pledge to continue working with all musicians, their promoters, agents and owners of venues, in secure environments, which do not present any safety risks to revellers and the public at large.”
