Manchester United are set to make Harry Maguire their third signing of the summer after agreeing a world-record deal with Leicester City, according to reports.
Both the Red Devils and Manchester Cityhave been linked with a move for the 26-year-old and have seen £70m bids rejected.
The Sun now reports that United have beaten their local rivals to the England international’s signature after agreeing a £80m transfer with the Foxes.
That would see the former Hull City man become the most expensive defender in history, with the total sum expected to surpass the £75m that Liverpool payed for Virgil van Dijk last year.
According to the publication, Maguire will undergo a medical on Monday ahead of a deal that will see United pay Leicester £60m up front, with the remainder of the sum coming in add-ons.
However, sources at Manchester United claim that a deal is still yet to be agreed with Leicester.
If the transfer is completed, Maguire would become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s third signing of the summer, following Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James to Old Trafford.
