The opposition Forum for Democratic Change-FDC wants electoral commission to consult all political parties before recruiting parish and sub county election supervisors ahead of the 2021 polls.

The FDC Spokesperson, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, says FDC and other parties that participate in the elections are affected by the decisions of those running Electoral Commission yet they are not consulted on their recruitment.

He says all they see are circulars asking for 10,000 applicants for position of parish and sub-county election supervisor.

He also notes that the recruitments are supposed to be done after the necessary electoral and administrative reforms have been undertaken.

According to Nganda, if Electoral Commission isn’t organizing NRM internal primary elections, it has to wait until the electoral reforms are undertaken.

The EC spokesperson, Jotham Talemwa, said they follow their own guidelines and don’t have to consult parties on the recruitment.

“We as the electoral commission produce circulars for recruitments without first consulting different parties including FDC but follow our own laws.”

Electoral Commission targets to recruit 10,057 supervisors who will oversee the forthcoming 2021 general elections. There are 1,671 sub counties and 8,386 parishes in the country, according to statistics from the Electoral Commission.
