As unemployment becomes daily lamentations among Ugandans, most desperate job seekers had found hopes in labour export firms to help them secure jobs from abroad.
Some of these companies promise well-paying jobs abroad especially in Middle East and UAE which has attracted the desperate Ugandans to release the little they have to pay their way out. Some sell out properties and others go for bank loans but jobs are not guaranteed after paying in, as all applicants have to go through interviews and tests that determines their fate.
Middle East Consultants has been the most leading firm in labour export though perceived among its and would be clients as the most reliable organization.
On Monday, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit arrested two officials from Middle East Consultants, a labor exporting company, for allegedly obtaining money falsely from over 27 men and women and torturing some of them.
According to the unit, the company owes people who had applied for jobs UGX51 million which they have collected over the last three years ago.
NBS Television reported that the arrested managers accepted to refund the money but according to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, that won’t stop them from being investigated.
Over the past, Middle East Consultants Limited has been in the news for the bad reasons, accused of employing top officials who extort money from some of the desperate Ugandans with promises that they are to secure them good paying jobs in the Middle East but this ends up as lies, which demoralizes the job seekers.
Despite cheating clients, it is reported that more and more desperate young people are flocking the company in the hope of securing a job and that some of the money collected from the fresh recruits is used to compensate the old ones who demand their money after failing to get the jobs.
Those tracking the company’s activities say that conning of clients/victims still continues at the company much as it exports some labour.
