A regular patient of dialysis at Kiruddu Hospital reportedly committed suicide, Thursday evening, after jumping from the 8th floor of the hospital where he was in a wheelchair.
Ministry of Health Spokesperson Emmanuel Ainebyoona says according to the dialysis team, the patient was admitted with breathlessness, having missed some dialysis sessions before admission.
“He also had a pneumonia that health workers managed, and he had improved. He was waiting for the morning dialysis session,” Ainebyoona said in a brief statement, refuting reports that the patient could have ended his life due to hospital neglect.
Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire identifies the deceased as Faustino Musizi from Kisozi in Gomba district. “We believe he acted out of trauma, having been hospitalized for over three weeks and you know being a parent with responsibilities,” Owoyesigyire said.
The body lies at the hospital mortuary.
