Robert Kabushenga, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Vision Group, has sacked Bukedde newspaper senior photo editor Herbert Lumansi who is alleged to have authorized publication of Daily Monitor’s Alex Esagala copyrighted photo without permission.
Esagala has since demanded the company to pay him Shs 400m in compensation for the award winning photo.
Last week Esagala through his lawyers of Kaggwa and Kaggwa Advocates, wrote a notice of intention to sue to Vision Group Printing and Publishing Chief Executive Officer, Robert Kabushenga over a Makerere University riot picture that appeared on Bukedde paper without the consent of the former.
“On the 25th day of November, 2019 a photograph that was taken by our client appeared on Bukedde newspapers,” said part of the letter.
Lawyers also in a legal notice addressed to Mr. Kabushenga, indicated they have instructions to sue the should the company fail to pay the above-mentioned sums together with 10% of the said sum as Lawyers’ fees within 7 days from the date of receipt of a legal notice.
“In the foregoing, we request for usage fees and damages of UGX.400, 000,000 due to the great risk our client takes while taking the said photo and skill while executing the same,” lawyers added.
