Police at Arua Central police station are holding a 19-year-old boy who drove off Nile star bus from the terminal.
The incident occurred today Friday at 9:30am at the bus terminal along Adumi road, in Arua Municipality.
The suspect identified as Andama Juma allegedly stole a bus registration number UBF 618T belonging to Nile Star bus company in Arua, Northern Uganda.
According to reports, It all started with the driver warming up the engine of the bus in preparation for the long journey to Kampala and at the same time waiting for passengers.
Andama, jumped into the bus before driving it with 16 passengers on board for about 5 kilometers along Kampala road, up to Odianyadri Trading Centre in Vurra sub county, Arua district.
He was later forced to drive the bus back to the terminal.
“The turn man informed management which then ordered the bus to be taken back to the terminal,” said Josephine Angucia, the Police West Nile spokesperson.
“The Motive of this act is not known but the suspect was taken for medical examination to ascertain his mental status and inquiries are going on into his past criminal records. A case of stealing vehicle c/s 254(1) and 265 of PCA has been opened,” said Angucia as quoted by ChimpReports.
