Zinedine Zidane
FOOTBALL-Real Madrid Manager, Zinedine Zidane has shocked fans of the club by refusing to vote for his lead striker Cristiano Ronaldo in football’s top honour, the Ballon d’Or.
“I’m not going to put anyone on the podium,” the Frenchman said ahead of Madrid’s Champions League clash with Tottenham on Tuesday night.
“The Ballon d’Or is something else, people vote,” he added.
His reluctance to support his own has led to speculation that there could be a silent rift between the two stars of modern football. A few months ago, Ronaldo intimated that he would like to return to England and wind up his career in the premier league. His plans were sparked by investigations around tax evasion in Spain.
If Cristiano Ronaldo wins this year’s Ballon d’Or, he would be on equal level with Argentine rival Lionel Messi, who plays for Barcelona.Messi has won it five times against Ronaldo’s four wins.
The Ballon d’Or is an award presented annually to the player of the year. It has been awarded since 1956.
Are there only two players in the whole soccer fraternity?? I only hear those against each other.
