MP Abiriga at court

Arua Municipality MP Mr Ibrahim Abiriga has been fined Shs 40,000 by Kampala City Hall Court, for urinating on the perimeter wall of Ministry of finance. Court gave him the option of paying the fine or spending two weeks in jail. He opted to pay the fine.

Prosecution informed court that Mr Abiriga committed the office on September 25, 2017 on Kyaggwe Road in Kampala city. He was photographed and pictures of him in the act circulated on social media.

After some silence, Abiriga spoke out and confessed urinating on the fence. He said “I was badly off. Should I have kept urine on myself? What is the problem with that?”
Prosecution cited Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) maintenance law and order ordinance, 2016. The ordinance stipulates that if one commits a public nuisance he or she shall be fined Shs 40,000 or jailed for two weeks, or both.

Court ordered for the first option.

Mr Abiriga has said that although people commit such offenses everyday, it is because of his political views that his case was highlighted. Abiriga is an avowed supporter of NRM and is frequently seen donning clothes in yellow, the party colors.
