Children under Action Aid Uganda (AAU) for education support are at a risk of dropping out of school because of the financial crisis gap caused by the freezing of the organisation’s accounts.Henry Ogwal Nickson, the Fundraising Director at AAU says that the financial crisis at hand leaves education of thousands of children in Uganda at stake because of the frozen accounts. Some of the funds were used to support the family and child police protection.

Ogwal explains that AAU supports refuges from Sudan, fights corruption and supports a number of children in education all over the country. He notes that all their works are affected by the situation and at a stand still. “The police child and family protection unit is part of our work.” Ogwal said in a media interview with a local television last week. He adds that “we are supporting thousands of children who need funding.”

Police on September 20, raided Action Aid Uganda offices in Kampala where they conducted a cordon and search operation. Police accessed and searched computers, mobile handsets, money transfer related documents and bank related transactions and carried some of these documents. Bank of Uganda on October 3, froze five bank accounts belonging to AAU following a police investigation of alleged money laundering.

The frozen accounts include, a Ugandan shillings account, US dollar, Pound sterling and two Euro accounts held at Standard Chartered Bank.
