Telecommunication giant Airtel’s subscribers are all over the moon after the company introduced a new offer for them on Fridays.
At only Uganda Shillings 2,000, an Airtel subscriber call make Airtel to Airtel calls for 100 minutes. The package is called Freaky Fridays and resonates with other lifestyle activities that especially young people engage in on Fridays.
“I am excited about all this. It shows that Airtel cares for us. My Friday has been made until this promotion stops,” Jackie Nantume, a student at Makerere University who doubles as an Airtel subscriber told this newspaper.
Airtel is Uganda’s second largest network owning a market share of over 38 percent. Since its merger with Warid Telecom, it has maintained a cost sensitive strategy started by Warid. Previously Airtel (formerly Celtel, and formerly Zain) was Uganda’s most expensive telecommunications service.
