The mouth-watering stimulus for artistes that is expected to come from the Government of Uganda will take a little longer than had been anticipated, this newspaper understands. Estimated at UGX 47 billion, the stimulus is expected to trickle down to the creative sector that has suffered the pangs of the COVID-19 restrictions since March 2020.

Speaking to the media yesterday, Emma Carlos, a member of the National Cultural Forum (NCF) of Uganda, said that the government intends to streamline the sector before it can release funding to it.

“Government is aware of the pains of the sector but it intended to develop the sector in a sustainable manner. Issues of government are very comprehensive. They need good governance in the sector, that will also guide the use of the funding or stimulus that is coming in future,” Carlos said.

Emma Carlos who has been working with Gen. Salim Saleh, the coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) said that the industry needed patience to get the fruits that come after hard work.

Many artistes have been trekking to the northern city of Gulu to seek for financial assistance from OWC. With no end of the lock down in sight, Artistes will have to find other ways to make ends meet as they wait.
