The leadership of the People’s Government led by Dr. Kizza Besigye and People Power’s movement led by Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, have resolved to join forces to end President Yoweri Museveni’s 33 year rule.

In a joint press conference addressed by People Power spokesman Joel Ssenyonyi and Betty Nambooze, who represented Besigye in Kampala on Wednesday, the two groups called upon their supporters, members and leaders to focus their energy and resources towards quickly ending the 33-year-NRM/Museveni junta.

“We agreed and commit ourselves not to engage in conduct which creates disharmony and undue collision amongst the forces of change and to always act in the manner that reflects togetherness and comradeship,” a statement signed by Besigye and Kyagulanyi reads in part.

Ssenyonyi said the two movements would be carrying out joint activities in a bid to unseat Mr Museveni.

“The two groups have different activities and we shall continue to work on them but once in a while, we shall hold joint activities,” Mr Ssenyonyi said.

Bobi Wine on Tuesday said they have been holding several meetings with different political parties, including ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), Democratic Party group dubbed DP bloc and the most recent one with People’s government headed by Dr Besigye.

Ms Nambooze said the question of fielding one candidate in the forthcoming election has been shelved as they want to pre-occupy themselves with getting back the freedoms taken away from them by Mr Museveni, 74.

“As we have always stated, our main aim is to oust (president) Museveni even before 2021. However, if the struggle takes us till then, then we shall choose one person from amongst us to go in one force. For now we are fighting for the freedom Mr Museveni has denied us. That is why we are not tackling that question as of now,” Ms Nambooze said.
