Opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye has dismissed calls to step aside for fresh blood in the opposition insisting no one asked him to join the struggle that other opposition leaders are now asking him to leave.

According to Besigye, an enduring misrepresentation of Uganda’s politics is that there is “opposition and government (NRM) Parties!”

He said the reality is that there is a Military Junta and a liberation struggle in which various organisations and groups are involved.

“I will continue being Activist in that struggle!”

Hitting back at those insisting he should retire, Besigye noted: “Nobody invited me into the struggle and nobody can say stop struggling. I will continue until that which brought me to the struggle has been achieved.”

Micheal Mabikke, one of the founding members of the Uganda Young Democrats, says they have not written off Besigye, he is a man of steel character and has made a significant contribution but there is a time for everything.

“Our message to Col. Besigye is the same message to President Museveni. The People’s Government excludes key players in the opposition like Bobi Wine, Nobert Mao and me (Mabikke).”

Mabikke said People Power is not a political party, it is an idea that brings together all Ugandans that are yearning for change. Certainly, one is a subset of the other and one is the foundation.

“Besigye must accept that there is a new kid on the block,” Mabikke said referring to Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.

While appearing on NBS television Tuesday morning, Tamale Mirundi, the presidential advisor for media matters, sad Besigye is no more in the political arena.

“He is being helped to come back, he lost.”

Mirundi said Besigye is being exposed and those who follow him are just pickpockets.

He said all government needs to do is put measures including closing his petrol stations.

“Besigye will never be off the ballot, his role is not to win elections,” Mirundi noted.

On Tuesday, Besigye, FDC President Patrick Oboi Amuriat and FDC Secretary General Nathan Nandala Mafabi met FDC District leaders and NEC members at the party head offices in Najjanankumbi.

They discussed the new FDC Policy and guidebook on the struggle going forward especially on how to implement the year of “Action 2019”.

“The focus is having a United Team, United Leaders, United Strategy and Common Actions to fight the Museveni junta,” said his aide, Ronald Muhinda.
