Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Kyagulanyi Sentamu also known as Bobi Wine has warned fellow parliamentarians that him and his colleagues opposed to the age-limit amendment, shall not allow for the bill to be tabled in parliament this week.

“Next week is not going to be an easy week. We are going to fight against attempts to change the constitution, because the constitution needs to be protected,” Bobi Wine told this newspaper.

The second reading of the bill is expected this week, after the legal and parliamentary committee of parliament completed its work. The committee is expected to send two reports to parliament. The majority report is in support of the bill while the minority report is opposed to the bill.

At the first attempt to table the bill, MPs opposed to the amendment protested its introduction into the house, leading to a fight between those opposed and those in support of the bill. The fighting MPs were suspended and the bill was tabled.

After a second reading of the bill, parliament shall debate its merits and demerits before a vote can be made on the bill.

Going by the numbers in parliament, the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) is expected to pass the bill without any hurdles.
