Several police commanders have failed in their supervisory roles because of accepting bribes from their juniors, the director Criminal Investigations (CID), Grace Akullo has revealed.

Speaking at the closure of a five-day retreat for Criminal Investigations Commanders at the CID headquarters at Kibuli on Friday, Akullo said some police commanders accept gifts from their junior earned through bribery and corruption.

She noted that police commanders who accept gifts from their juniors can’t be in position to supervise them since they are compromised.

Akullo also said some commanders have a tendency of parading suspects so that they can release them after paying bribes.

Speaking at the same event, the deputy inspector general of police, Maj Gen Sabiiti Muzeyi, emphasized the need for integrity and truthfulness in investigations.

Sabiiti asked CID commanders to be creative and read more to gain additional knowledge and skills.

He said several officers are young but with very old minds while some old men have very young minds.

Failure by police to prevent and investigate crime, has seen the level of criminality skyrocket in recent years.
