The Uganda Episcopal Conference, the assembly of bishops in Uganda is set to launch a national television station. The station called the Uganda Catholic Television (UCT) is expected to be launched by January, 2018.
Officials at the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) say UCT is one of the stations that they have advertised for the public to give their views on what they think about it.
“If there is no objection from the public, we shall go ahead to give them a license,” Abdul Salaam Waiswa, the head of legal affairs at the UCC said.
The catholic television, which members of the church say is long overdue, shall cover the whole country. It shall also feature on digital satellite channels, so that viewers from across the world can gain access to it.
The Uganda Episcopal Conference started in the 1960s. It is currently chaired by Archbishop John Baptist Odama.
