Uganda Federation of Movie Industries (UFMI) chairperson Mr.Kagolo Hussain, has called on stakeholders in government, in the private sector and within the movie industry to cooperate for the development of the movie industry in the country.Speaking to Monday Times on Friday, Kagolo said that with cooperation from different stakeholders he believes that they as an industry can progress positively.
“One area that we need to address is for us to be involved when decisions are being made. We would like when policies are passed, that our stakeholders consult us so that we know what they have planned for us. Sometimes we can also give our input so that we own the policies that are made,” Kagolo said.
He revealed that UFMI is a national organization and the responsible bodies should call all of them and their different branches or organizations which are inside the film industry to talk to them. “Everyone is ready to listen and give their opinion on these issues affecting the industry. When they talk to everyone, it is easy to find what the exact challenge or problem is within the industry. If they have any help, they can give the industry.” Mr.Kagolo Hussain added.
He revealed that him and his colleagues do not want any money from government. Rather, they are contented with protection to be able to do their work without any hindrances. “What I want is protection, not money. If I have protection, me and my colleagues in this industry can be able to make the money that we want to make,” Kagolo said.
“We thank all the people in different stakeholders who are supporting us. We thank Mr.Bemanya Twebaze the registrar general of URSB. He is a good man. He has done a lot of things that are good for the industry. Even if he faces challenges or opposition from others, he tries his best. Even Madam Mercy has been helpful for us,” the UFMI boss concludes.
