Singer Jose Chameleone is in final stages of starting a commercial radio station, Monday Times can exclusively reveal. The ‘mateeka’ singer who is also establishing a bar called DNA on Acacia Avenue is already in talks with a leading radio station in the country, with the intentions of taking it over.

Sources familiar with the discussions say, Chameleone will part with UShs 4 billion to get the station, which operates under frequency 90.

“Radio Stations which are below 90 are very expensive. They range from 3 billion to 5 billion. The one Jose is buying costs 4 billion,” the source speaking to Monday Times on condition of anonymity said.

It is not known how Chameleone has mobilized all this money to give away on one purchase, but one line of thought has it that he saved a lot of money during the election campaign of 2016.

“Chameleone was paid 10 million shillings per day, by President Museveni’s campaign team. It could be the source of his cash chest which he is using to buy the station” the same source speaking on condition of anonymity said.

Jose Chamelone who at the same time is marking twenty years in the music industry is one of Uganda’s biggest artistes of the last two decades.
