Chef Josh, an expert in offering cookery, bakery and outside catering services, operates a high standard school for offering those services in Kampala Uganda. Located in the busy Kanyanya area on Gayaza Road, the school has grown to attract students and customers who are looking for such services.

Today we spent time talking to Chef Josh who also hosts cooking programmes on Fresh Television and Mama FM 101.7 in Kampala Uganda.
Monday Times: You have an amazing facility here. What exactly do you do at Super Kitchen School of Cookery and Bakery?
Chef Josh: Well thank you for visiting us. Our motto is ‘taste it, feel it and enjoy it.’ We basically are a multifaceted company, which deals in training and offering the services of cookery, bakery and outside catering. We also do cookery adverts (for example if a hotel or restaurant needs an advert for people, we do it for them). When a hotel or restaurant needs consultation, for example in setting up, or if they are not making sales because the food is not good or the customer service is poor, we offer them consultation. This is because the kitchen and the service staff are what makes the money for the hotel or restaurant.
We do both local and international cuisines. So if the Indian High Commission wants to contract us to offer food for their Diwali Festival, we can do it. If the Nigerian High Commission wants to do the same, we do it because we can do all types of cuisines.
Monday Times: Okay. So compared to other people who offer similar services, how different are you?
Chef Josh: first of all we have different things all in one place. So one does not need to look for cakes and outside catering from different places. For those we train, our curriculum is broad and they learn a lot of things. We also do not teach theory. We teach only practical because we think that is what they need.
Unlike other training schools for such services, we have boarding section, holiday classes and we give full attention to the student.
Monday Times: Do you do mobile services for the training?
Chef Josh: Yes we do. Sometimes we go to the community and do trainings if people organize themselves, we can go to them.
Monday Times: How long does the training take, when one is enrolled?
Chef Josh: There are short and long courses that we offer. We have that of one day, one week, one month, two months and three months. We also have a full certificate which lasts for one year and diploma which lasts for two years.
By the time you are done, you are able to speak the Kitchen language.
Monday Times: How are the schedules like?
Chef Josh: The schedules are normally four hours at a time starting at 8am, 12pm, and 2pm. On weekend we do 11am.
Monday Times: Okay. So after training, do you find jobs for your staff?
Chef Josh: Yes we do. I normally advertise for hotels and restaurants who are looking for staff through my television and radio shows and on my YouTube Channels.
Monday Times: Can someone consult you on what they learnt, if they have forgotten, without paying extra?
Chef Josh: Yes they can. And if they want to learn more they can enroll for another course, which we can then teach them at a discount.
Monday Times: Who provides the ingredients for training?
Chef Josh: We give the one who wants to train a list of ingredients to come with.
Monday Times: When it comes to outside catering, how far can you go outside Kampala?
Chef Josh: We can go as far as the client wants us to go. But he or she will have to meet the cost of travel and also cost of what we are preparing. Normally we cost per person.
Monday Times: How are your prices like?
Chef Josh: Our prices are affordable and we always negotiate so that the client gets the best offer.
Monday Times: Do you give discounts?
Chef Josh: Yes we give discounts especially on outside catering and for those who have come to train for a second time. For outside catering our prices go lower when there are more people to be served.
Monday Times: Do you accept installment payments?
Chef Josh: Yes we do offer installment payments.
Monday Times: If I am a slow learner, how can you help me to catch up with what you are teaching?
Chef Josh: We find time to give you extra attention, normally by giving you extra classes.
Monday Times: What are your working hours and days?
Chef Josh: Our working hours and days are Monday to Friday from 7am to 6pm and Weekends from 10am to 4pm.
Monday Times: Tell us a bit about your radio and television shows, because you mentioned them earlier in our discussion today.
