Parliament to vet new Ministers tomorrow

The Appointments Committee of Parliament has set aside Friday 3, 2020 (tomorrow) to vet newly appointed ministers to the Cabinet.

According to a notice by the Clerk to Parliament, Jane Kibirige,, the committee will convene at 9:30 am to start the vetting process whose proceedings are not open to the media.

“Notice is hereby given that the Appointments Committee is scheduled to meet on Friday,3, January 2020 at 9:30 am in the South Committee room and parliament will interact with the following presidential appointees,” Kibirige’s notice reads in part.

First to appear will be Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi who was appointed as minister for local government, and will be followed by Mityana district woman MP, Judith Nabakooba who is the presidential nominee to the Ministry of Information, ICT and Communications.

Others including Peter Ogwang (minister of State ICT), Hellen Adoa (Fisheries), Denis Obua (Sports), Robinah Nabbanja (Health General), Jackson Kafuuzi (Deputy Attorney General) and Beatrice Anywar (Environment) will also be vetted.

President Museveni in a December shuffle, dropped Molly Kamukama as the Principle Private Secretary and replaced him with the NRM Party deputy treasurer, Kenneth Omona.

“In exercise of the powers vested in the President by Articles 99(1), 108(2), 108A(1), 113(1) and 114(1) of the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has, in pursuance of the goals of the NRM and Ugandans in general, made minor changes to the Cabinet,” read in part, the message announcing the changes.

The appointments committee proceedings are closed to the media.
