Core Fitness Health Club is an ultra modern fitness centre serving clients with a broad category of services. In our visit to the club, we found that it has all the requirements of a modern health club with every piece of equipment being functional for the transformation of one’s body for the better. The club also has very good staff who range from instructors, and other support staff.
We spoke to the proprietor Hajj Fahad who told us about the club and why it has managed to attract its diverse clientele over its period of existence.
Monday Times: What does Core Fitness Health Club offer?
Hajj Fahad: It has a combination of services, that include but are not limited to a gymnasium where we help people to get fit and realize their body goals. We also have a steam bath. At our health club we also have activities like Aerobics, Zumba, Body conditioning and are in the final stages of bring Fit Kids, a program for children to our customers. We are also soon introducing boxing to the club so that those interested can be trained as boxers, or those who are boxers can prepare for matches from our club.
We serve both men and women and their rest rooms are separate from each other.
Monday Times: This is impressive. How different are you from other clubs offering these kinds of services?
Hajj Fahad: First of all, we have experience. Some members of our team have been in the business for at least twenty years, so they know what to do, the different programs, the situations that occur and above all how to use our equipment and guide our clients on how to do so.
We also have a different approach to our clientele. We are not a one size fits all kind of health club. When you visit us, we would like to know a little about you first before starting on anything. We want to find out what goals you would like to achieve at the club, and your body conditioning before we can plan a program for you and with you.
Our programs are tailored to our clients. We believe that everyone is different. Some people might be holding jobs where the fitness requirements already places them somewhere ahead of those who might not be in a similar job. For example if Ahmed is a Rugby player, we cannot expect that he will be like Peter who might be a bank teller. One is seated most of the time while the other is doing fitness activities. We also know that people come with different body conditions because we are all different.
We therefore try to pay specific attention to each individual. To do such a thing requires good listening skills. We are very good listeners. We spend time with our clients, to get to know their bodies and we put together a program linked to what we know so that we get for them the best program and service.
Broadly our programs are in three stages of beginner, intermediate and advanced. We tend to start people from the beginner stage and move in slow but steady blocks of programs. But then it depends on where they are in terms of fitness. Some might have moved in from another country and were already doing work in a health club from there so they may not fit in beginner.
We also have good and functional equipment that gives you a real life experience of what you are trying to achieve in our health club.
Monday Times: What are your working hours and days?
Hajj Fahad: We work weekdays (Monday to Friday) from 6am to 9pm while on the weekends from 7am to 7pm. We are also open on public holidays.
Monday Times: Do you have a provision of delivering your services to clients who are interested wherever they are?
Hajj Fahad: Yes sure we can if the opportunities arrive. We need to fully understand what is required then we can be able to prepare to serve them. If it is within a reasonable distance and we have ample time to be able to do so we are ready and able to do it.
Monday Times: How are your prices like?
Hajj Fahad: We are affordable. The prices depend on what you would like to receive in terms of service.
Monday Times: What advice would you give to someone who is coming to a health club for the first time?
Hajj Fahad: As soon as you step in here, we would like you to be very open and tell us a bit about yourself. If you have a condition of any kind, you need to let us know. In fact we start off with a form which we give you to fill. We ask you about your health and body condition. We encourage you to go to the doctor/a physician to help you to fill the form so that we look at it and develop a program for you that can be suitable for your specific body condition.
For example the way how we handle someone who is diabetic is different from how we would handle someone who is a boxer. When we get clearance from your doctor then we can move forward with a good program for you.
Monday Times: What condition would you not allow someone to come to your health club with?
Hajj Fahad: It all depends on how we assess your condition. Generally we do not accept people who have taken alcohol or drugs to come in for obvious reasons.
Monday Times: What are the benefits of belonging to your health club?
Hajj Fahad: It eases stress, it helps your body to be revitalized and it eases pain you may have. One thing that is also beneficial about our health club is that it helps you to network with other people. Many different people come to the health club and you can get to know people who you work out with.
Monday Times: There are people who feel body ache whenever they get to a health club for the first time, is it normal?
Hajj Fahad: It is normal within a reasonable level. Soreness will come and go away with time.Soreness is expected but to a certain extent. Beyond that extent it is not a good sign.
We have a procedure. We first warm you up then we move to what program we agreed. We do the walk out, stretching and so on.
To manage the body cycle, we advise people to work out on some days and then take some days off to recover. We suggest either one day work and one day off or two days work or one day off or one day work and two days off. Whichever way you choose to do it, it is good to have a rest period for the body to rest and recover.
Monday Times: Where are you located?
Hajj Fahad: We are located at the Roof Top, Block C of Ntinda Complex Building on the Ntinda-Nakawa Road opposite St.Luke Church. Our direct phone number which is also on Whatsapp is: 0753489222
Monday Times: What are your parting words for the public?
Hajj: They shouldn’t shy away from health clubs because they are beneficial. They should move in and take one step at a time and eventually it will add up and then they will get the full package. It does not take you a day to get fit you go slowly by slowly.Everytime they come they are growing their fitness account. It is never too late to start.
