Speaker Rebecca Kadaga Tuesday used an elbow instead of her hand while exchanging greetings with Ambassador MacDella Cooper.

Kadaga was arriving for the high-level Women’s Conference to celebrate women in infrastructure; at the Kampala Sheraton.

“I have had to use my elbow,” said Kadaga, in resonance with President Museveni directive to Ugandans to avoid shaking hands in the wake of coronavirus that is raving the world.

“This was aimed at sending a signal to all of you out there — that we must guard against contracting the Coronavirus,” said Kadaga who had just arrived at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel to attend a public lecture on ‘Politics and Economic Development.

The sub theme is ‘Africa Bridging the Infrastructure Gap: the Role of Women.’

Ambassador MacDella Cooper, a presidential aspirant in Liberia’s last general elections, was the keynote speaker.

Kadaga briefed the audience about Parliament’s efforts to enhance leadership of women; their participation in infrastructural development; and our stance on user-friendly facilities for women in infrastructure.

For example, no loans for roads shall be approved unless they factor in washrooms for women & children, she said.

“Similarly, markets shall be obliged to have washrooms, daycare centres & nurseries.”

Ambassador MacDella made a strong case for women to use their 51% plus numerical strength to positively impact the quality of leadership & life in Africa.
