Three Ugandan students have reportedly tested positive for coronavirus disease in Italy. The 3 female students are based in the cities of Piacenza, Milan, and Pavia.
According to available information, the first student tested positive on March 26, 2020, another on April 3 and the other on April 6. Their condition is said to be stable according to multiple student sources.
“The students are worried because getting health care for foreigners at this time when the country is overwhelmed is difficult. However, they have been taking natural remedies of warm water and lemon and their situation has greatly improved. They fear to tell their relatives back in Uganda because they don’t want to alarm them because they have mild symptoms but even then, with COVID-19 things can worsen in an instant,” said one student based in Milano who didn’t want to be named.
According to him, without the medical cards whose issuance was suspended some months ago, it becomes very difficult for foreign students to get medicare in Italy at the moment when doctors have to choose between who dies and who lives.
“Make no mistake, the number of deaths are still high perhaps in 700s as before, but the Italian government was just tired of offering no hope to its citizens. This COVID-19 has really ravaged this nation, I just hope Ugandans continue to keep indoors because nobody would wish to see what is happening here reach Uganda with all our poor systems,” said another student.
