The speaker of Paliament Rt. Hon Rebecca Kadaga has pleaded with police and Presidnet Museveni to be considerate with the masses during curfew hours.

“I watched on TV last evening and there were hundreds of cars at police stations and road blocks. I think the police should try to be considerate and the President will have to look into it. This is something which has to be discussed,” she said.

On May 19, President Yoweri Museveni said private vehicles would be allowed on the roads following months of lockdown which restricted the movement of public and private means of transport. The President said the private vehicles must have maximum of 3 occupants and that everyone must wear a face mask to slow the spread of coronavirus.

However, Police Wednesday morning issued a directive warning that they will even be tougher than day one of the exercise.

“We Experienced Traffic Jam in most parts of Kampala Metropolitan Area and this was caused mainly by Excitement, indiscipline and delay in Places of Work and other Motorists had nothing to do but just for the sake of getting out,” KMP Traffic Commander, SSP Norman Musinga said.

“We shall be enforcing Traffic and Regulations on all our check points with emphasis on the following offences, Driving without permits, Over speeding, driving while under influence of alcohol.”

“We shall impound all Motor Vehicles found driving beyond curfew time and action will be taken against the Driver.”

“Delay in Traffic Jam Should not be used as an excuse for being caught up in Curfew Time.”

“All Motorists are advised observe Ministry of Health Guidelines and Presidential directives on Curfew time.”
