Emmanuel Karasi the Chairperson of Bushenyi District Public Accounts Committee has been arrested.
Karasi who has been missing in office for close to two months was arrested on Friday in Bushenyi Municipality and briefly detained at Bushenyi Central Police station before being transferred to Kampala.
Sources at the district indicate that the Karasi is facing charges of uttering false documents and forgery. It is alleged that he forged academic papers to serve as Speaker for Bushenyi Municipality and later a chairperson of the public accounts committee.
He abandoned office about two months ago after disagreements with the Chief Administrative Officer Elias Byamungu.
Byamungu instituted a committee to investigate Karasi after receiving information from a whistleblower. However, Karasi disappeared days after the committee started its work.
Eddie Serugyongi the Greater Bushenyi regional police commander declined to reveal details surrounding the arrest.
