Doctors on strike have warned that they will soon move to another course of action, if government fails to respond positively to their strike. The striking doctors who said that they are more important than MPs have stated that government does not value them.
“We now that we play a crucial role in the well being of the country. But the way the government has responded to our demands shows that it is not aware of the priorities that it should have. We are taking another step in our strike,” Dr.Ekwaro Obuku, the Uganda Medical Association president says.
Recently President Yoweri Museveni threatened to sack the striking doctors. There were also reports that the military was poised to replace the striking doctors.
The strike which has gone for over a week, threatens to cripple the healthcare system in the country.
It is also becoming a problem for President Museveni who as a crucial constitutional amendment in parliament.Health services are of interest to all Ugandans, and the majority of the population depends on the public healthcare system.
