EC concludes verification of Muntu’s new formation party

The electoral commission has concluded verification of signatures by supporters of Rt. Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu’s new formation party.

On September 25, 2018 the former Forum for Democratic Change Party President quit the party to form his own and expressed hope that it would be registered by December last year.

Ugandans have been waiting for the most believed disciplined politician party launch however reports earlier on indicated that verification was still on going.

Some of the new formation leaders have since accused the electoral commission deliberately delaying the process.

However, the Electoral Commission spokesperson Jotham Taremwa has denied the claims, saying the commission has been in touch with the New Formation officials.

“The electoral commission has been in touch with the party officials and we have been going through all the information received. We are done with the party verification,” he said.

In September 2018, the former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party President, Gen. Mugisha Muntu unveiled a new political group, the New Formation.

Muntu while addressing the press at Hotel Africana, said that the New Formation was necessary after a nationwide consultation that concluded that there was need for separation from FDC due to internal differences.

Gen Muntu said while the FDC party chooses defiance as a means of fighting against the government in power, the New Formation is a strong believer in organization and diplomacy as a means of assuming power.

Muntu, however, reiterated their commitment to an opposition that works together to create change.

Muntu emphasized that it was necessary for a separation from FDC to be able to cater for the interests of those against defiant methods. He however said that the breakaway was done in good faith.
