First Lady, also the Education Minister Janet Kataaha Museveni has instructed the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education & Sports and the Executive Secretary UNEB to investigate schools that denied senior six candidates exams.
“This is against standing government policy,” the first lady pointed out.
She said no school administrator is allowed to stop Any UNEB registered candidate from sitting his/her final exams because of unpaid school fees balances.
According to Janet, exam results of the candidate can be withheld by the school administrators until he/she has cleared all outstanding fees.
“I have accordingly instructed the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education & Sports and the Executive Secretary UNEB to investigate this matter and take the necessary action,” she added.
On Monday, 15 students of Top Care Secondary School in Iganga municipality were barred by the administration from sitting for the History Paper 3 examination; while another from King of Kings Secondary School, also in Iganga, suffered a similar fate.
However, the administration of the two schools bowed to pressure from the public and district officials, and allowed the students to sit for the subsequent examinations.
District officials had to intervene to force the administration allow the students to sit for the subsequent examinations.
On Tuesday, officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports led by George Mutekanga, the assistant commissioner in-charge of private schools, stormed the school to have the affected students sit for their exams.
According to Daily Monitor, The Iganga Resident District Commissioner [RDC], Eva Kwesiga, said that a number of well-wishers have started contributing the Shs3.6 million that is owed to the school.
The Indian Association of Uganda contributed Shs 800,000 to help and clear fees balances for the students.
