Pastor Aloysius Bugingo of House of Prayer Ministries has instructed his lawyers to file a case against Bukedde newspaper and Red Pepper accusing them of defamation.
He says the two particular media houses have been running stories about his impending divorce with his wife Teddy Naluswa.
According to Pastor Bugingo, Bukedde has been publishing stories indicating that he has been openly abusing and insulting his estranged wife whereas not.
He also accuses Red Pepper of writing stories indicating that he has many other children out of wedlock.
According to him, the stories have in effect defamed him and lowered his standing before right thinking members of society.
He said he acknowledges the fact that as a public figure, he isn’t beyond public scrutiny but there has to be fair reporting based on things which have transpired as opposed to excessive sensationalism.
The Pastor said he had initially ignored but his silence had been misconstrued for weakness and now is time to seek protection through courts of law like any other Ugandan would do on getting aggrieved.
Pastor Bugingo made the remarks while appearing on his Salt TV on Monday in the programme ‘Misinji’. Speaking in Luganda, the pastor revealed that the suits will have been served to the media houses by Wednesday.
He said the two media houses will have to prove to court the evidence that he has other children out of wedlock.
Pastor Bugingo’s marital woes have attracted considerable interest across the country with some condemning the act and urging him not to divorce Ms Naluswa.
Pastor Bugingo asserts the “love and attraction” he had for her “has been swept away” and they as a couple “cannot live together,” something that has stunned many Christians.
Other accusations leveled against Ms Naluswa include “being in constant communication with Bugingo’s known rivals (enemies of church); appearing for various interviews in the media especially New Vision, Bukedde, defaming him in a bid to tarnish his character; and sending him “abusive messages among which regretting the day she met him and always praying for divorce.”
