Exotic Salon is a brand name in beauty services in Uganda. It has existed for over fifteen years and has built a pedigree in fashion and beauty. Today we visited the Ntinda Branch which caters for several clients from around and beyond.
We spoke to Mr.Timothy Tumwesigye Markeri the manager who gave us insight into what makes Exotic Salon tick. He discussed their services, their unique modes of operation and we got an understanding of why they have been successful at what they do.
Monday Times: for the benefit of our readers, what exactly does Exotic Salon offer in terms of services?
Mr.Timothy Tumwesigye Markeri: We are a multipurpose and multiservice unisex salon. By unisex I mean that we work on men haircuts and women hairstyles.
We do full service for beauty services. We do all hair and beauty services. We also do nails (pedicure and manicure, gel, acrylics, gel building) etc. We do dye and coloring of hair.
We offer bridal services for brides and grooms. We can do hair dressing and make up for the whole entourage that includes matron, maids, flower girls, best man, page boys and others.
We also do kids hair (haircuts for boys and hairstyles for girls)
At Exotic Salon we are able to do hair for Asians and Whites.
Monday Times: How different are you from others who do the same kind of service?
Mr.Timothy Tumwesigye Markeri: Our slogan is “take years off with our professional touch.” This implies that we emphasize professionalism in whatever we do. From our recruitments to our service and ambiance, we display professionalism, which we would like our clientele to benefit from.
We are therefore experienced. We have been in the field for quite some time. 16 years. We are also very selective in the products that we use. We make sure that we only go for the best products. As such the clients get the best.
We offer you a unique exotic touch, as our name suggests. Exotic means something modern and exceptional.
We regular offer refresher training to our staff on our professional standards.
Mr.Timothy Tumwesigye Markeri: What are your working hours and days?
We work Monday to Sunday (seven days a week), 8.30am to 9.30pm.
Monday Times: Do you offer mobile services?
We do but we do it mainly for bridal and with a special advanced arrangement.
Monday Times: If someone wanted you to go and do their make up and hair for a music video shoot, would you be able to?
Mr.Timothy Tumwesigye Markeri: Yes we can, it is one of the few exceptions apart from bridal where we can go out.
Monday Times: How are your prices like?
Mr.Timothy Tumwesigye Markeri: Our prices are competitive and are suitable for the quality of service that we offer.
Monday Times: What advice do you give to someone who intends to keep good quality hair?
Mr.Timothy Tumwesigye Markeri: They need to know first of all the nature of their hair, because hair differs from person to person. Different people have different hair texture. They can get professional advice from hair dressers who can recommend to them the best products for their hair based on what they need and what can make them continue looking good without side effects.
