Despite owning swathes of land across Buganda, deceased retired Archbishop of Church of Uganda His Grace Dr. Livingstone Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo insisted on being buried at the Uganda Martyrs Shrine Museum Namugongo Anglican Shrine. He will be buried on Tuesday, January 9, 2018.
Nkoyoyo was born in Mityana and had property in different parts of Buganda, yet he dismissed the idea of being buried in those places preferring that his final resting place should be at the Museum. He initiated the project of the Museum and was overseeing its progress until his death.
Nkoyoyo lost the battle with cancer at Kampala Hospital Kololo on Friday. He was 81.
He served as Archbishop from 1995 to 2004.
Relatives who spoke to this news paper said that he was sentimental about Namugongo, not only because of the Museum project, but also because he was ordained as a deacon at the same place in 1969.
“Retired Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, His Grace Livingstone Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo will be laid to rest on Tuesday 9th Jan 2018 at Uganda Martrys Museum Namugongo Anglican Shrine, a project he initiated and has been spearheading till his death.
