Veteran Media Consultant Nada Andersen is reportedly in trouble for cutting short President Museveni’s budget speech in favor of a world cup match that was to air on Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC). According to sources familiar with the matter, Museveni was furious that this was happening months after he approved for a lot of funding to revamp the national broadcaster.
Andersen who is highly qualified and experienced in television broadcasting explained herself presenting facts concerning the incident. She said that UBC had signed contracts for airing World Cup matches and if they failed to honor even one of them, they could be sued and could be subject to heavy fines.
“I was just doing my job. I respect the president and all that he has done for the country. At that moment however, we had a decision to make regarding whether to air the match or not. That would have been costly to the corporation. To those cutting short the speech affected, we are deeply sorry, but the situation could not be avoided,” Andersen told reporters.
State House officials say the president’s concern was less to do with cutting short of the speech than not being notified about it in advance.
“We are aware of such contingencies, but we should have been notified in advance. Some times the public misunderstands such things,” an Official spoke to us on condition of anonymity.
