Police in Rubirizi District are investigating circumstances under which a man threw two of his children into the lake, burnt another, before committing suicide.
The man identified as Hannington Nuwamanya, 32, a resident of Magogo cell in Ryeru sub-county reportedly threw the children in Lake Magogo in the wee hours of Wednesday before setting their family house ablaze. He later committed suicide by drowning in Lake Kigezi in the same area.
Greater Bushenyi Regional Police Spokesperson Martial Tumusiime says preliminary findings indicate that Nuwamanya got misunderstandings with the wife Allen Nuwamanya and other family members after they rejected his move to sell off part of the family land.
Other reports indicate that the deceased had been left with two of the deceased children; four year Trevor Namanya and his young brother, three year old Felix Niwagaba, while he grabbed the third one, four month old baby from the mother Allen Nuwamanya, who had left the home after disagreements.
The wife had sought refuge at a nearby church, when Nuwamanya grabbed the baby from her, reportedly locked him in their house and set it ablaze.
