The Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party has appointed a grass root mobilization team ahead of the 2021 general elections.
Addressing journalists on Monday at the party headquarters in Najjanakumbi, FDC spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda says that team will traverse different parts of the country to recruit new members and meet party leaders and supporters.
According to Ssemujju, the decision was taken during the National Executive Committee meeting held on Friday.
Among the appointed include Budadiri county legislator Nandala Mafabi who will be the mobilization team to Karamoja and will be assisted by Geoffrey Ekanya. Ekanya will also be on the team for Eastern Uganda together with Salaamu Musumba and former Wafula Oguttu
Buganda will be led by Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwo, Nakawa legislator Michael Kabaziguruka, Makindye West MP Ibrahim Kasozi, Kawempe South MP Mubaraka Munywagwa, and Kira MP Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda as well as Wasswa Biriggwa among others
Ankore/Kigezi will be led by Jack Sabiiti, MP Roland Mugume Kaginda, MP Francis Mwijukye, and party iron lady Ingrid Turinawe.
Bunyoro/Toro/Rwenzori: Will be led by Hon. Toterebuka Bamwenda, Mr. Tugume Moses and Hon. William Nzoghu.
Acholi Lango: Will be led by Hon. P.P. Okin Ojara, Hon. Okumu Reagan, Hon. Betty Aol, Hon. Aciro Lucy, Hon. Acire Christopher, Hon. AKello Franca Judith and Hon. Judith Franka
West Nile: Will be led by Hon. Hassan Kaps Fungaroo, Hon. Oguzu Lee Denis and Hon. Emmanuel Ongiertho.
“The full list of committee members will be released by the FDC Secretariat in due course. The team leaders will be notified this week of their appointments and responsibility and are expected to convene meetings and to hit the ground immediately,” he said.
He adds that the mobilization team are expected to audit existing structures to establish gaps caused by death, desertion, absenteeism and retirement of leaders among others.
He says that after mobilization, the team will report to the FDC National Council, which will then make recommendations to the National Delegates Conference.
Ssemujju also said the party had planned to hold elections in July but may not be possible since the Electoral Commission has set nominations for Presidential and
Parliamentary candidates for August 2020.
The change in the nomination dates means that the FDC has to adjust its program to be able to prepare adequately for the nominations.
Ssemujju says the party needs to make a decision as to whether to conduct their internal elections before or after the General elections.
