The high transport fares ushered in by the festive season have shown no signs of reducing with some transporters, our review of fares across different transporters can reveal. Since Tuesday December 18th, 2018, road users have had to part with more money to meet transport fares to different routes that lead out of Kampala city as Bus Company owners cash in on the opportunity.
In spite of expectations that after Christmas day, transport charges would drop, this has not been the case for some transporters.
Mr. Jimmy Adeku, the manager of Otada Bus, said that the prices they had fixed for destinations of Gulu, Oyam, Lira and Kamdini are most likely to remain unchanged even after the New Year.
“You see, this is a business, we also know it is hard to get the money but in the same way, we also give better services for the passengers, by optimizing our costs” Mr Adeku said.
However, John Okello, the booking officer for Teso Coach Bus Company that goes the Eastern route said that they have returned the travel fares to normal charges.
“We changed the charge from Kampala to Soroti 25,000/= and Kampala to Moroto 45,000/=. But right now, we have dropped the 5,000/= that we had topped on the normal charge, he explained.
