Former Kyadondo South MP Issa Kikungwe has passed on Sunday at Mengo hospital after a brain tumour surgery.
Kikungwe 54, the Democratic Party (DP) national treasurer, never gained consciousness after the operation nine days ago. This was his second surgery, after the first one which was done in India years back.
Norbert Mao the DP leader decribed Kikungwe as, “a man who served his party and country with dedication, diligence and courage and in his political work as a parliamentarian he stood firm for truth and justice.”
“Our colleague did not regain consciousness after a surgery he underwent on Friday 27 October 2017 to remove a brain tumor which had recurred after a successful surgery a few years ago,” Mao posted.
Mao added that Kikungwe has been the party’s national treasurer for seven years and spearheaded the Ben Kiwanuka House project of building the Party Headquarters.
Who is Issa Kikungwe?
He was born on June 22nd in 1963 to Haji Mugerwa Musa of Lukuuku, Bukomansiimbi.
He attended Kiwuminika John Bosco primary, Kako Senior secondary and Kibuli Secondary School before joining Makerere University for a Bachelor of Commerce degree.
Hon.Kikungwe came to the political scene in 2001 when he defeated former Deputy Chief justice Stephen Kavuma as Makindye Ssabagabo MP.
It was after this defeat that President Museveni appointed Kavuma to the bench as a cadre Judge.
Kikungwe served as a representative for Kyadondo South constituency until 2016 general elections when he stood as Kampala mayor. He was defeated by Erias Lukwago.
Kikungwe will be laid to rest today at his ancestral grounds in Nabbingo Masaka.
