Police in Soroti is holding four people in connection to the robbery in Pride Microfinance bank over the weekend.
Among the arrested are two security guards of Saracen Security Company; James Ojara, 20 and John Omusugu, 23. The other two are workers from one of the road construction companies that the police dog tracked along Soroti-Mbale road.
The police have since declined to reveal the identities of the suspects for fear of jeopardizing investigations. Michael Odongo, the East Kyoga regional police spokesman says the security guards were arrested because of contradicting statements recorded from them after the incident.
He explained that while one guard claims the robbers attacked both of them before accessing the premises, the other gave a different version.
Odongo also revealed that the attackers dismantled the CCTV camera system that could have recorded some clues about the robbers.
At the time of the robbery, one security guard was only three days old at the workplace while the colleague had worked there for six months.
Benedict Nalumanyi, the manager of the bank says he needs to reconcile his books of accounts to be able to tell how much loss was incurred in the robbery. It is the second incident in Soroti town since 2017 when robbers broke into MTN shop and stole Shs 80 million from the coffers.
