Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) boss Godfrey Mutabazi’s tenure at the body has come to an end after the end of his contract.

According to reports, Mutabazi leaves UCC after ten years in charge of the communications body.

The reports add that ICT Minister Judith Nabakooba wrote to Mutabazi urging him to vacate the office to avoid a situation where he would be in office without a formal contract.

There were attempts last year to have his contract renewed, however, we have learnt that these efforts are yet to yield any results.

He has been replaced by Irene Kaggwa Ssewankambo.

Mutabazi has been serving a five year contract in accordance to Section 16 (3) of the Uganda Communications Act, 2013 and eligible for reappointment for only one further term.

Taking to its twitter handle, UCC said: “..UCC ED Godfrey Mutabazi’s current contract expires on 9th February 2020 and today marks his last working day in office. Eng. Irene Kaggwa Ssewankambo, the Director Engineering & Communications Infrastructure, will take over as the Acting Executive Director.”
