Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) boss Godfrey Mutabazi has disclosed that the government of Uganda has acquired technology that will track and catch Ugandans who are causing chaos and engaging in social media crime. Mutabazi made the revelations at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) held in Kampala this week.
For a long time, Government officials have been critical of social media, which they say has anonymous disrupters, people who are engaged in subversive activities, crimes, or telling lies, yet they cannot be caught.
“No one will get away with crimes committed on electronic media, because we are now ready and able to find them out. We advise the public to use social media for development activities,” Mutabazi said.
UCC which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, is tasked with regulating the electronic media.
