The Government of Uganda is planning to extend most of its services to embassies and high commissions across the globe.
This was brought has been brought to the public during the Diaspora business breakfast that happened at Serena hotel in Kampala on Friday morning.
NIRA is one of the bodies planning to extend its services to enable Ugandans easily access National identity cards.
According to Colonel Moses Mwesigwa the Manager registration and operations at NIRA, offices have been created in some of the high commissions and embassies to help register the Ugandans in the Diaspora for the national identity cards; however the printing is done in Uganda so as to avoid some problems like issuing out cards to non citizens.
Mwesigwa however says, NIRA has opened up a full time operating desk at the Uganda High commission in United Kingdom. This helps the Ugandans abroad to get fulltime services.
He also said they are also training more workers who will be posted to the offices that will be opened in the other embassies.
Citizens in the Diaspora have also been advised to get dual citizenship to help them avoid paying for visas whenever they are moving in or out of the country.
It now takes only seven days to process the national identity card for a Ugandan citizen living abroad.
However Paul Kayima, a Ugandan – American citizen says he is not happy with the behavior of the police because it does not allow them access their rights even when they hold citizenship of Uganda.
In a nut shell, all Ugandans living abroad can now access the national ID services regardless of where they are living.
