Eric Mutasiga, the headteacher of Merry Time Primary School in Mukono District has breathed his last after being shot by a Local Defense Unit (LDU) officer.
Mutasiga was reportedly shot at in Wantoni during a scuffle that ensued as he attempted to shield a suspect from being arrested last month.
An eyewitness (then) said, the ruthless LDU constable then fired 6 bullets and two shattered Mutasiga’s left thigh and was rushed to Mulago.
But on Monday, the family of Mutasiga informed friends that had passed on at the facility due to an infection that arose from the bullet wounds.
According to WhatsApp messages seen by this website, the deceased’s family has asked authorities to intervene and arrest the constable who shot Mutasiga but also extend assistance to his young children he left behind.
President Yoweri Museveni had cautioned security forces to desist from using excessive force while enforcing COVID-19 guidelines. He warned that those found liable would face the full wrath of the law.
His comments were prompted by complaints from the public that some members of the LDU force had broken into civilians’ homes while imposing curfew. Museveni reiterated that was illegal.
He activated his trusted aide, Col. Edith Nakalema to arrest any security personnel who violates his guidelines.
It remains unclear whether Mutasiga’s killer had been arrested.
