The ministry of Health has cleared air on allegations circulating that there are two deceased bodies which were secretly flown into the country.

In a statement issued by the Health Ministry on April 22, 2020, none of the deceased Ugandans that were brought into the country from the Middle East had succumbed to covid19.

The Director-General of Health Services Dr Henry Mwebesa says that the person whose body was repatriated from Dubai passed away due to an accident and not COVID-19 as has been reported in the media. There was a second body from Dubai, of a Ugandan who died of cute Respiratory Syndrome, but was handled with caution.

The public had been alarmed by a message indicating that the national COVID-19  Taskforce together with the team from the Ministry of Health had intercepted a body brought in the country as Cargo from Dubai and picked from the airport by APlus.

“The case of death of the individual from Dubai, UAE was an accident. The body arrived at Entebbe International Airport on Saturday 18 April 2020 and was buried safely,” Dr Mwebesa said in a statement released thereafter.

Dr. Mwebesa said the six A-Plus staff and 2 relatives who received the body before the intervention of the ministry were put under a 14-day Institutional Quarantine in Kayunga.

On Sunday President Museveni warned that no one is allowed to bring dead bodies with in the country, more so when they have died of Covid-19 related cases

“Let no one bring any bodies of people that have died of Covid-19 to Uganda. Whoever dies of Covid-19 outside Uganda should be buried there, you can also choose to cremate them, but let no one bring the bodies here. Likewise, Ugandans who die as a result of coronavirus will be buried by the state with proper health precautions and procedure,” he said.
