A Human Resources expert has questioned the credentials of the newly appointed Uganda Cranes coach Sébastien Desabre (41), who he says has never coached a national team.
John K. Abaho who describes himself as an economic development practitioner has written a lengthy piece demonstrating why Uganda is doomed with a coach who “has been roaming from club to club.”
“A closer look at his CV reveals some short-comings (at least in an HR perspective) and I wonder if the five-man selection committee, that included an international expert-Zambia’s Kalusha Bwalya looked at these, and whether this committee included an HR/management expert for an expert opinion,” Abaho writes.
Among the issues Abaho raises, is that Desabre has been changing jobs at will and his online CV shows he had nine employers over the last eight years. This he concludes is a sign of instability or lack of results.
He also suggests that with no experience of coaching a national team, Desabre might turn out to be a gambler.
“Of less importance, but worth mentioning, is the fact that he is holding the position of national team coach for the first time. Somebody who has previously managed a national team built some structures at national level and attained some results would have been a better bet,” Abaho added.
Sébastien Desabre beat three candidates to the job. He trounced Emilio Ferrera (Belgian), Moses Basena (Ugandan), and Jonathan Mckinstry ( from Northern Ireland). He will earn USD 25,000 per month.
