Getting to know our music producers is essential for those upcoming artistes who may be looking for a producer to work with.

Today, our reporter had an interesting chat with one of Ugandas highly sought after music producers. Mukusa Nessim commonly known by his production name, Nessim Pro (or Nessim Pan Pro) is a 25-year old producer who discovered the art of producing music when he was still at School.

Just like many inspirational artistes out there, Nessim dropped out of school when he was in P7 to venture into music. He started as a backup artiste and later developed the urge of singing his own music.

After several disagreements with other producers he aspired to work with, he later started producing his own music. His first song as a producer is the famous Oli Mbuzzi by Don Mc.

Since then, he has produced so many hit songs like Gutamiza by Radio and Weasle ft B2C, Gutuja by Rema featuring B2C, Bankuza by Chosen Becky, Farmer by Ykee Benda & Sheeba, Ntunga by Radio and Weasle, Owooma by Geosteady, Singa by Ykee Benda, Turn the Replay by Levixson, Everywhere you go by Bebe Cool, Memories by A Pass and much more.

Below is the full interview with Nessim.

Monday Times: Who is Nessim?

Nessim: My name is Mukusa Nessim, I was born in a family of three boys and am the last born.

Monday Times; When and how did you start music?

Nessim: I started as a backup artiste and later started singing alone; I would do a back up to receive a free offer to record a song. I later felt like producing my own music and I never wanted to argue with producers all the time, so I started my own production work.

Monday Times: What song gave you your break through?

Nessim: Oli Mbuzzi by Don Mc

Monday Times: Which people inspired you to join music?

Nessim: My brother inspired me to join music but he is now a business man.

Monday Times: What have been the best songs you liked working on?

Nessim: Many songs but most especially for the upcoming artistes, they have so much talent and I love working with them. Some of the songs are not really out so I cant mention them.

Monday Times: Which artiste do you like working with again and again?

Nessim: (Laughs) It might sound funny but I like Willy Mukabya. He is so talented; I love his vocal voice and everything about him. He has some tone that nobody has.

Monday Times: Are you comfortable producing in different studios or you are the type of producer who prefers working in one studio?

Nessim: If it means going outside, I move with my gadgets. As long as I have my gadgets, I have no problem working in any studio. I like being unique thats why I always move with my gadgets. I dont like using other peoples stuff but I usually dont move into studios, I like being indoors.

Monday Times: What lessons have you learnt about the music industry in Uganda?

Nessim: You shouldnt trust every person that comes around to work with you, some are not purely your friends but only want to break you down. I have also learnt patience, to control my moods because some people come to me when they dont know how to sing, they sing badly yet they want to control you. So I give them time.

Monday Times: Do you think that Nigerian Music in Uganda is a problem for the music industry?

Nessim: Its not! Inspiration is the problem. If you want to be Wiz Kid, research about him, know what he likes doing and what inspires him and always try to do what he does. Study the Best and be the Best thats my motto.

Monday Times: Which artiste have you never worked with that you would like to work with?

Nessim: Willy Mukabya (I like him so much).

Monday Times: What do you do in your free time?

Nessim: I really like playing football so much. I play competitive football not just PlayStation games and also listening to music, doing research.

Monday Times: How do you want to be remembered?

Nessim: I want to be remembered as someone who did set a trend and left the rest for the young and upcoming ones.

Monday Times: If you were to change your job, which other job would you like?

Nessim: [Laughs] That would be football, I love football but my age cant allow me to play more.
